Czech Pork Prices May Grow 5-10% On Higher Pig Prices

The price at which Czech farmers sell live pigs has increased by some Kc1.5 to Kc38 per kilo against last week. This may raise pork prices in shops by 5-10 percent, sales cooperative Centroodbyt chairman Jan Veleba stated.

The growth in pig prices is mainly due to a shortage of pigs as well as higher consumption, he added.

In neighbouring Germany, where local farmers export to the Czech Republic in the event of pressures for price cuts, pigs are sold at Kc41 per kilo this week.

Centroodbyt expects Czech prices to increase slightly to Kc40.
