Russia restricts seafood products import from Danish, Estonian companies

After detection of arsenic and microorganisms in the seafood products, Russia on Thursday (Sep 13) temporarily banned the import of these products made by the Danish company Qajaq Trawl A/S and the Estonian company AS Smakus.

The Russian agriculture watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor said the import of products by Qajaq Trawl A/S was banned because of the detection of arsenic in a consignment of shrimp. Supplies of fish products from the Estonian company AS Smakus were banned due to the discovery of mesophilic aerobic and facultative anaerobic microorganisms in a consignment of salmon trimmings.

Rosselkhoznadzor also said that due to breaches of veterinary and sanitary requirements, various companies from China, Australia, Paraguay, Ukraine, Spain, Brazil, Norway, Armenia and several other countries had been subjected to stricter controls.
