China's corn exports surge 22.8% in August

China exported 9,048 tonnes of corn in August, up 22.8% on-year, according to preliminary statistics released by the General Administration of Customs on Friday (Sep 10).

The figure was lower than 12,203 tonnes of exports in July.

Corn exports from January to August amounted to 101,641 tonnes, up 28.4% or 82,742 tonnes during the same period last year.

However, rising corn exports from January to August has limited impact on domestic supply as they are in small amount compared with domestic production, analysts said.

Corn exports will be limited in future in view of high spot prices on the domestic market and recovering demand from the livestock breeding industry.
