Bangladesh suspends export license of 4 shrimp factories

 

 

The government of Bangladesh has suspended the license of four shrimp processing factories after a report from the EU indicated presence of harmful chemicals in its shrimps, a local newspaper reported Wednesday (Sep 13).

 

Chemicals Nitrofuran and Metabolite were detected in 22 consignments of 13 shrimp factories, the EU report stated.

 

The government suspended the licenses of the four factories --Rupsa Fish and Allied, Lockpur Sea Food, Jahanabad Sea Food and National Sea Food after conducting an investigation.

 

Bangladesh's Khulna region exported US$286 million worth of shrimps last year.
