Less grainfed cattle in Brazilian feedlots

Brazil's cattle on feedlots would be 9 percent below 2005 levels to 2.1 million head, according to Agra FNP an agricultural information specialist in Brazil.

Only one in twenty cattle slaughtered in Brazil are grainfed, compared to one in three for Australia.

The decline in numbers on feed can be attributed to weaker beef prices, which in some states have fallen below production costs.

Increased beef production, worsened pasture conditions and restrictions caused by diseases led to poorer returns for producers.

Due to the drought conditions, the Agra FNP expects the current high rate of cattle slaughter would taper off unless there is significant growth in feedlot activity, which is unlikely.
