Soybean crop to be procured at minimum support price in Madhya Pradesh, India
India's Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has assured farmers in Madhya Pradesh, India that the soybean crop will be procured at the minimum support price (MSP), ANI reported.
Chouhan's statement comes in response to growing concerns among farmers about soybean being sold below the MSP in recent days.
He said that the Madhya Pradesh government had submitted a proposal for the procurement of soybean at MSP, which was approved by the central government.
"First, we permitted states like Maharashtra and Karnataka for procurement of soybean at MSP. We received a proposal from Madhya Pradesh last night and have approved it. Farmers of Madhya Pradesh need not worry, soybean will be procured at MSP. Farmers will get the rightful price for their hard work, and procurement will be done in the state," Chouhan said.
Madhya Pradesh Farmer Welfare and Agriculture Development Minister, Aidal Singh Kansana, had indicated that a proposal had been sent to the central government for approval to begin procurement of soybean at MSP. He stated that the process would commence once approval was received.
Madhya Pradesh is India's largest producer of soybean, accounting for about 60% of the country's total production.
