China approves three more Thai poultry plants for export, total reaches 26

Thailand's Department of Livestock Development has announced that the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) has recently approved three additional Thai poultry processing and production facilities for export, bringing the total number of certified Thai poultry plants exporting to China to 26, Thaiger reported.
The approval of these facilities reflects China's confidence in Thailand's strict regulatory and control systems. Thailand complies with international standards, including Good Hygiene Practices (GHPs) and the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) system.
These standards ensure that Thailand meets the requirements outlined in the protocol between the Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and China's customs authority. This protocol covers inspection, quarantine, and veterinary hygiene for frozen poultry exports.
China remains a vital trade partner for Thailand, particularly in the livestock sector. Frozen poultry products are a key export from Thailand to China. The strong bilateral relationship between the two countries has allowed for close coordination at both policy and operational levels, ensuring adherence to export conditions.
In 2023, Thailand's frozen poultry exports to China were valued at THB 16.9 billion (US$507 million). For the first half of 2024, from January to June, these exports have already surpassed THB 8 billion (US$240 million), with projections suggesting that the total value for 2024 could exceed THB 18 billion (US$540 million).
This upward trend in exports is not limited to China. Thailand's overall poultry exports to global markets, including Japan, the United Kingdom, Europe, Malaysia, and South Korea, have also shown significant growth.
In 2023, the total value of Thai poultry exports was THB 149.975 billion (US$4.4 billion). During the first six months of 2024, from January to June, the value of these exports reached THB 76.745 billion (US$2.3 billion), marking a 7% increase compared to the same period last year, according to a report by KhaoSod.
Somchuan Ratanamungklanon, Director-General of Thailand's Department of Livestock Development, stated that the continuous approval of Thailand's poultry facilities by China is a testament to the high standards maintained by the country.
