US corn harvest at 5%, tracking last year's progress

According to the latest weekly crop progress report from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), American farmers have harvested 5% of their corn acreage, maintaining a pace comparable to last year and slightly ahead of the five-year average of 4%, Independent Commodity Intelligence Services reported.
Texas leads the way with 62% of its corn crop already completed, followed by North Carolina at 49%.
The report indicated that 34% of the corn crop has matured, with 97% in the dough stage and 82% dented. 52% of the crop is currently rated as either good or excellent.
The USDA said that soybean harvested figures will be included in the September 18 report. Presently, the soybean crop has finished setting pods, with 31% of the acreage beginning to drop leaves.
52% of the soybean crop garnered a good to excellent rating.
