Vietnam's tra fish exports to EU drop 13% on-year

Over the past eight months, Viet Nam's tra fish exports to the EU reached an estimated US$237 million, down 13% on-year, according to the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

VASEP said that the unsatisfactory performance was due to the falling price of tra fish on the global market, adding that tra fish has sold somewhere between US$2.4-US$2.6/kilogramme in the second quarter, down 10-20% compared to prices in previous years.

During January to August, total seafood exports to the EU hit around US$720 million, down 4.6%, mainly due to a significant slump in tra fish exports which used to account for 35-40% of the total seafood export earnings from the EU.
