Ukraine pig, sheep numbers up; poultry, cattle down
The number of pigs in Ukraine on Sep 1 was 7.98 million, 12 percent more than on the same date last year, the state statistics committee said Tuesday (Sep 12).
The numbers of poultry fell 1.1 percent to 198,170 million while the cattle numbers declined 1.38 percent to 7.15 million. The number of sheep and goats increased 2 percent to 1.98 million.
Currently some 200 new pig farms are being built in the country, with the number of pigs expected to increase by two million in the course of the year.
In the last few years a number of investors entered the pork market and considerable financial resources have been invested in upgrading the existing facilities and creating new ones.
