Hong Kong customs seize smuggled Wagyu beef worth US$254,000
400 kg of smuggled Wagyu beef worth about HKD 2 million (~US$254,000; HKD 1 = US$0.13) was seized by Hong Kong customs and the marine police at Sai Kung peninsula, The Standard reported.
Officers discovered some men loading suspected smuggled goods from a seven-seater private car to two speedboats along the seashore after discovering a suspected speedboat smuggling case there.
Police pulled over a private vehicle, seizing 400 kg of expensive frozen Wagyu beef worth HKD 2 million (~US$254,000)
A 44-year-old man was detained by police on suspicion of being involved in the incident.
Investigations showed that in order to supply the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday period, the smuggling syndicate tried to smuggle expensive food into China before the holiday period.
