SPACE 2018: "Reference point" to address stockraisers' challenges

The first day of SPACE 2018, a renowned livestock trade show held in Rennes, France, began on September 11 and will happen until September 14.

The show's 32nd edition will serve as a "reference point for stockraisers confronted with new challenges, helping them face current changes, including technological changes," a press release stated.

"It is essential that our show maintains a firm grip on agricultural policies and that we reflect the stakes and decisions which ensue," said Anne-Marie  Quemener, chief superintendent of SPACE.

The show would also be attended by France's Minister for Agriculture. Referring to the minister's visit, Marcel Daniel, the president of SPACE, hopes that government officials would listen to the difficulties of French farmers.

"... we will (emphasis) on the decreasing competitiveness of French stockraising. Whether it is in poultry, pig or dairy farming, France is losing out commercially. Our territories are losing wealth and jobs," he added.

This year, SPACE will see an estimated 100,000 visitors along with 1,410 exhibitors from both local and foreign organisations.
