The initiative will begin in the United Kingdom and focus on crops such as wheat, which form a significant share of fish diets. Through Cefetra Ecosystem Services, launched in 2023 with Soil Capital, UK farmers are supported in adopting regenerative practices that improve soil health and generate verified carbon removals. Farmers receive financial incentives for the transition, with the aim of reducing risk while delivering measurable outcomes.

 

According to Denmark-based BioMar, feed and raw material sourcing account for more than 80 % of emissions linked to aquaculture production. While aquaculture has one of the lowest feed conversion ratios in animal farming, reducing the footprint of feed ingredients remains a key challenge for the sector.
