China's Zhengbang targets 10,000 swine GGP imports for 2020

Chinese media reported last week that swine producer Zhengbang targets importing 10,000 swine great-grandparent (GGP) stocks for 2020.

On September 4, Jiangxi-based Zhengbang received its third batch of GGP stocks (2,240 head) of the year from Denmark in Sichuan province.

At the height of COVID-19 epidemic in China earlier in March, the company received in Yunnan province 1,020 of GGP stocks from France. This was followed by a second batch of 1,500 in July. The company expects the breeders from the first batch to start delivering piglets in October.

For the next three to four months, Zhengbang plans to import about 6,000 more GGP stocks from France, Denmark and the United States, to meet its 10,000 target for 2020. The company plans to deliver a combination of different breeds to strengthen its regional competitiveness.
