Philippines' customs seize US$1.5 million worth of smuggled poultry from China
The Philippines' Bureau of Customs (BOC) has confiscated smuggled poultry products from China, valued at approximately PHP 85 million (US$1.5 million), from a warehouse in Paranaque city, Philippine Daily Inquirer reported.
According to Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service Director Verne Enciso, the raid revealed large quantities of frozen duck meat, frozen chicken, frozen pork, as well as other food items bearing Chinese markings. Additionally, various other food and beverage products with foreign labels were discovered.
Juvymax Uy, Deputy Commissioner of the Intelligence Group, stated that the warehouse owners would be given 15 days to present the necessary documents to address the allegations of hoarding imported agricultural products.
Further investigation is expected as the BOC continues its efforts to crack down on smuggling activities.
