Ukraine reaches 636,000 tonnes for 2012 corn harvest
Ukraine has harvested 636,000 tonnes of corn as of September 7, as it plans to harvest about 20 million tonnes this year.
The Agriculture Ministry said Friday (Sep 7) the corn yield averaged 3.40 tonnes per hectare against 4.64 tonnes at the same date in 2011. It has said drought during the corn growing was the main reason for the small yield this year.
Farms plan to thresh 4.57 million hectares of corn this year versus 3.5 million hectares in 2011.
Ukraine plans to harvest 45 million tonnes of grain in 2012 compared with 56.7 million tonnes in 2011. The corn harvest totalled 22.7 million tonnes last year.
