China's Heilongjiang expects bumper harvests in 2011
Northeast China's Heilongjiang province is set to achieve grain production rise for the eighth year running in 2011, with output likely to top 57.5 million tonnes, up 7.5 million tonnes over last year.
The province's grain planting area stood at 13.76 million hectares this year, up 210,000 hectares on-year.
Heilongjiang produced 50.1 million tonnes of grain in 2010, accounting for 9.17% of the country's total output of 546.1 million tonnes.
China plans to raise its grain production capacity by 50 million tonnes to more than 550 million tonnes by 2020. Heilongjiang's new grain capacity is expected to increase 8.85 million tonnes during the 2009-2020 period, or about one sixth of the nation's total newly added capacity.
