Argentina relaxes beef export ban

Argentina has further eased the partial ban on beef exports that was imposed in March this year, according to the World Beef Report.

Over the next 30 days, exporters would be allowed to ship 65 percent of the volume they shipped over the same period in 2005.

The six month ban, which expired this week, has had a severe impact on Argentina's exports. Unprocessed beef exports were down 46 percent in January to July, compared with the same period last year.

The ban was originally imposed to curb inflation and a sharp rise in beef prices. In late May, the ban was partially lifted, after the government was satisfied that increases in beef prices have slowed significantly.
