Bangladesh permits Indian chicks and eggs imports
Bangladesh has decided to allow the import of day-old broiler and layer chicks and also eggs from India.
This move was to break the monopoly of some big companies in the country's poultry sector and also to meet the country's increasing demands, according to reports.
Sharful Alam, secretary in the ministry of fisheries and livestock, has said that the import of poultry products from India would begin within a week.
Alam said if the import begins, the prices of eggs, broiler and layer chicks would fall significantly
The Bangladesh government had earlier formed a permanent co-ordination committee for co-ordinated efforts to keep the market situation normal, he said. The co-ordinated efforts of the government would continue in finding solution to the problems of Bangladesh's poultry sector, he added.
