Grain harvest in the Czech Republic expected to be up 10 percent

The grain harvest in the Czech Republic is likely to see a 10 percent increase for 2007, according to government surveys of local farm production.

The third estimate for harvest is at 6.36 million tonnes, up from the 2006 harvest of 5.765 million tonnes, the Czech Statistics Office, or CSU, said Thursday (Sep 5).

The yield from wheat is expected to total 4.8 tonnes a hectare in 2007, up from the final grain crop yield of 4.5 tonnes/hectare in 2006.

This year's harvest is higher thanks to winter cereals which wintered well in the mild weather and was relatively unaffected by the spring drought, the CSU said.
