Canada developing new swine tattoo numbering system
The Canadian Pork Council (CPC) said it is developing a new national swine tattoo numbering system to serve as an identifier, as part of the country's new livestock identification and traceability system which is under development at the moment.
One number in the tattoo would be allocated to each province, while certain numbers would identify the specific area within the province, CPC added.
A CPC study done several months ago had found a relatively high level of duplication in tattoo numbers within the swine industry, the council said.
