South Korea sees three ASF outbreaks this year

Three African swine fever outbreaks have struck pig farms in South Korea this year so far, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

On August 8, South Korea's Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) reported a new ASF outbreak on a pig farm (about 2,400 pigs) in Goseong-gun, Gangwon-do.

This was followed by additional confirmation in an epidemiologically linked farm in Inje-gun, Gangwon-do on August 16. These were the second and the third outbreak in domestic pigs in 2021, with the previous occurred in early May.
