Russia's August grain harvest up 13% on-year

As of August 30, Russia's grain harvest increased by 13% on-year to 60.7 million tonnes, according to a statement by the Agriculture Ministry.

Farmers milled grain from 25.1 million hectares, or 54.5% of the sown area, which is 3.1 million hectares less than at the same date last year. The yield amounted to 2.41 tonnes/hectare for the current year, compared to 1.91 tonnes/hectare a year earlier.

In mid-August, the ministry reduced its forecast for the country's 2013 grain harvest to 90 million tonnes from 95 million tonnes due to unfavourable weather conditions.
