Chile's salmon exports up 17.8% in Jan-Jul 2013
 

 

In the first seven months of this year, Chile exported a total of 332,667 tonnes of salmon, a figure which shows an increase of 17.8% over the same period in 2012, when 282,269 tonnes were shipped abroad.

 

These sales abroad generated returns of US$1,968 million, 7.3% more than in the same period last year (US$1,834 million).

 

According to a report issued by InfoTrade for Aqua, the average price during the first seven months of 2013 was US$5.92/kilogramme (kg) while in the same period last year US$6.50/kg was paid.

 

Between January and April this year, Empresas AquaChile -- which groups AquaChile, Salmones Chiloé, Salmones Maullín and Aguas Claras -- gained the lead in terms of returns, with sales for US$232 million.

 

In second place was located Multiexport Salmon, with sales of US$174.2 million, and further back was Mainstream Chile, with sales for US$172.8 million, and Los Fiordos for US$133.8 million.

 

Then they were followed by Salmones Antarctica, with sales for US$118.9 million; Salmones Camanchaca, for US$99.9 million; Ventisqueros, for US$98.8 million; Salmones Blumar, for US$85.8 million; Acuinova, for US$85.4 million; and Australis Mar, for US$82.5 million.

 

In July, 2013 the export volumes of the major salmon companies were: 38,386 for Empresa AquaChile; Mainstream Chile with 32,192 tonnes; and 22,960 tonnes for Salmones Multiexport.
