Hawaiian aquaculture sales rise 2 percent
Hawaii's aquaculture sales rose to US$28.1 million in 2004, or up 2 percent from the previous year, according to data by the National Agriculture Statistics Service's Hawaii field office.
Algae took the top spot by making up 45 percent of total aquaculture sales at US$12.6 million. Shellfish was next in line with sales of US$8.3 million.
The Big Island was once again the largest producer of aquaculture with US$21.2 million in sales or 75 percent of the total, with Oahu a distant second at US$5.2 million.
