Informa Said To Peg US Corn Crop At 11.041 Billion Bushels
Informa Economics Inc., an analytical firm based in Memphis and formerly known as Sparks Companies Inc., was said to have pegged the 2004-05 U.S. corn crop at 11.041 billion bushels, with an average yield of 150.5 bushels.
The firm was said to have forecast the 2004-05 soybean crop at 2.878 billion bushels, with an average yield of 39.1 bushels.
Currently the U.S. Department of Agriculture forecasts the 2004 corn crop at 10.923 billion bushels with an average yield of 148.9 bushels and the 2004 soybean crop at 2.877 billion bushels with an average yield of 39.1 bushels.
The USDA is scheduled to update its production forecasts for the 2004 corn and soybean crops Sept. 10.
Last month, Informa was said to have pegged the 2004 corn crop at 10.863 billion bushels and the 2004 soybean crop at 2.944 billion.
In 2003, the U.S. produced a 10.114-billion-bushel corn crop and a 2.418-billion-bushel soybean crop.
