China further sells 20,000 tonnes of frozen pork from state reserves
China auctioned 20,000 more tonnes of frozen pork from its state reserves on Friday, Sept. 4, the China Merchandise Reserve Management Center said on Tuesday, Reuters reported.
Previously, the government sold 10,000 tonnes of frozen pork on Aug. 28. The auctions are meant to help cool high prices amid a severe production shortfall.
China has so far this year sold more than 500,000 tonnes of pork from its reserves.
African swine fever outbreaks have greatly decimated China's pig herd since the disease first struck the country in August 2018.
