*Commonly referred to in China as liquid methionine is methionine hydroxyl analogue, a liquid source of supplemental methionine.
Market analysis
The availability of methionine was tight as domestic production dwindled due to summer cuts and stringent environmental inspections. Meanwhile, imports were low while demand firmed up as the egg and broiler markets remained strong. Prices of methionine climbed for the consecutive second week as a result, gaining 7.3% during over the past fortnight.
In Europe, prices of Chinese methionine stayed in the range of EUR2.45-2.55/kg.
Market forecast
Methionine supplies are expected to stay tight with domestic production decreased and imports limited. This, coupled with growing poultry feed demand in the period leading to Mid-Autumn Festival, will support methionine prices to stay strong.
