Australia's Beef Exports to Japan Decline

Australia's beef exports to Japan declined 15% in August compared to July, with 21,264 tons shipped.

Chilled beef amounted to 11,848 tons while 9,416 tons of frozen product were shipped, a fall of 14% and 15% respectively, compared to a month earlier.

Chilled beef exports incurred a 50% tariff rate, up from 38.5% from 1 August.

During July, exports of chilled beef were 11% higher than June as importers rushed to secure product before the tariff increased.

Increased tariff rates on chilled beef imports are expected to impact the recovery of beef demand in Japan.
