Over 400 kg of unsafe pork seized in Bulacan province in Philippines

At least 420 kilogrammes of pork believed to be unsafe were seized at a police checkpoint in Marilao town in Bulacan province in the Philippines, inquirer.net reported on Monday, Aug. 31.

The report did not state why the meat was unsafe, but the country has been hit by African swine fever outbreaks. Last February some 500 pigs were culled in Norzagaray, also in Bulacan, after ASF killed 400 hogs at the Eco Farm located at that town. Other towns in Bulacan hit by ASF in 2019 were Guiguinto, Plaridel, Pulilan, Pandi, Baliwag, San Rafael and Bulakan, as well the city of Malolos.

The Marilao police chief, Dominador Ignacio, said the intercepted pork came from Sta. Maria town and was discovered in a van and a truck.

The meat was intended for distribution in Metro Manila, investigators said, as per report. It was buried in a pit by meat inspectors.
