Thailand confirms pigs free from infections
Thailand's Livestock Development Department has confirmed that neither AH1N1 nor avian flu infections have been found among pigs in Thailand at present.
Speaking in a meeting to prevent AH1N1 flu in livestock, Livestock Development Department director-general Yukol Limlamthong stated that there was no report of the virus in Thailand but admitted that it might be possible.
Yukol also suggested farmers not to raise pigs with poultry to avoid virus strains crossing, warning that any ill animals must be reported to officials at once.
He added that farmers should also take good care of their animals and standardise their farms.
The Office International des Epizooties (OIE) or the World Organization for Animal Health earlier reported confirmed AH1N1 infection cases from farms in Canada, Argentina and Australia, adding that the virus may have mutated.
