China's Qingdao meat retailers and abattoirs collaborate in meat safety

In efforts to promote meat safety, Qingdao City, Shandong province has established a new system of linking agricultural markets, abattoirs with retailers.

In 2010, 45 Qingdao agricultural markets, 10 registered abattoirs and more than 400 meat retailers have signed agreements to join the linking system which helps to standardise the market and develop a modern supply chain of meat.

The new system is a form of meat tracing and monitoring network, which also helps brand-building in the meat industry. The government will do its best to speed up the promotion of the system in a bid to standardise and improve meat quality.
