ADM's satellite seminar focuses on postbiotics in poultry nutrition

As a sponsor of the Broiler Quality Conference, ADM hosted a Satellite Seminar where Felicio Atienza, Jr, Technical Manager for Poultry Asia, presented "Integrating Postbiotics and Organic Minerals in Poultry Nutrition: a Holistic Approach to Gut Health, Immunity and Sustainable Performance."

 

His presentation highlighted the growing importance of postbiotics, advanced alternatives to probiotics. Unlike live probiotics, postbiotics consist of inactivated microorganisms or their components with a known, stable microbial profile.

 

Their heat and storage resistance makes them ideal for feed inclusion. Postbiotics improve nutrient digestion, boost immune defences, and enhance overall poultry health by supporting gut function.

 

Felicio introduced ADM's proprietary postbiotic Citristim, made from whole-cell inactivated novel yeast. Rich in immune-enhancing compounds like nucleic acids, mannans, and 1,3- and 1,6-beta-glucans, Citristim differs from typical yeast additives based on Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Its unique properties help regulate immune responses and control harmful pathogens.

 

ADM highlights glycine's role in effective trace mineral nutrition

 

Another highlight of Atienza's presentation was the role of glycine as the ideal ligand for chelated trace minerals. Being the smallest amino acid, glycine enables high mineral concentrations while forming stable bonds that prevent mineral interactions reducing effectiveness. Its neutral odour, sweet taste, and water solubility make it highly palatable and suitable for delivery via drinking water.

 

Additionally, glycine's lack of chirality ensures full bioavailability, enhancing mineral absorption. Glycine is also gaining recognition as a limiting amino acid in poultry nutrition. ADM applies glycine as the ligand in its B-Traxim 2C line of organic trace minerals (zinc, copper, manganese, and iron) offering superior stability and bioavailability through a patented crystalline structure. Compared to inorganic minerals, B-Traxim 2C improves mineral uptake and reduces gut antagonisms.

 

Benefits of B-Traxim 2C organic trace minerals include better feed conversion ratios, higher daily gains, increased carcass yield, enhanced meat quality, reduced broken eggs and foot pad dermatitis, improved reproductive performance, and lower mineral excretion, supporting both productivity and environmental sustainability.
