Iowa, US, senator welcomes Taiwan's easing of restrictions on US beef and pork
Chuck Grassley, Senator of Iowa, the United States, has welcomed Taiwan's move to ease trade restrictions for US beef and pork, remarking that the state's farmers "have been kept out of this market for far too long."
"Taiwan is taking steps to improve market access for American beef and pork producers by trying to bring its measures in line with international standards," said Grassley, who is also the Chair of the Senate Finance Committee.
He added that Taiwan will need to work with the legislature to finalise this process. "I'll be following this matter closely and look forward to an improved agricultural and economic relationship between Taiwan and the American people," he said.
At a press conference last week, Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen said she instructed the government to ease regulations to permit imports of US pork containing trace amounts of an animal feed additive used by some US farms, as well as US beef products from cattle age 30 months and older.
