EU pork exports surge 18.8% in H1

 

 

A total of 27 EU countries have exported 1.48 million tonnes of pork in the first half of the year, reporting an on-year rise of 18.8%, according to Dutch agricultural daily Agrarisch Dagbla.

 

Russia remains the most important importer of European pork. Russia's EU imports grew by 8% in the last six months to 412,000 tonnes - which represents a market share of 27.8%.

 

Hong Kong and China are on the rise as importers of European pork - their growth figures are 17% and 60% respectively. They imported 245,000 and 136,000 tonnes respectively.

 

EU exports to Japan hardly grew - a 4% increase to 117,000 tonnes could be noted. South Korea however doubled its imports to 112,000 tonnes.

 

Figures over June 2011 alone reveal EU pork exports of 255,000 metric tonnes. This is a rise of 15.4% in comparison to June 2010 - and equal to exports in May.
