Hong Kong may resume Japan beef imports
Hong Kong may resume importing beef from Japan after a 5-year ban since Japan discovered its first case of mad cow disease in 2001, Kyodo News reported Thursday (Aug 31).
Japanese exporters would likely begin shipping beef to Hong Kong in the fall if inspection procedures and food safety measures taken at meat-processing facilities in Japan are approved by Hong Kong.
Japan exported just 60 tonnes of beef to Hong Kong in 2000.
