SUMINAPP programme is on track

The Eurostars-funded programme, SUMINAPP (Sustainable Usage of trace MINerals for Animal Production Programme) has commenced.
Led by Animine, a France-based supplier of value-added sources of trace minerals, this collaboration is supervised by a consortium, which includes PigChamp Pro, a Spanish company specialising in vet services and health consultancy through research and data management, and CIRAD, a French agricultural research organisation.
Aiming to fine tune optimal supply of zinc and copper, the programme will include studies on pigs, poultry, ruminants and fishes.
Innovative biomarkers will measure nutritional status and intestinal health of growing animals. Assessing not just mineral quantification, but, also metal speciation in animal wastes, this ambitious programme of a total budget of 2.2 million euros (US$2.5 million) will provide data for ecotoxicity and integration in life cycle analysis calculations.
