US is world's top beef exporter in 2017
The US is the world's No. 1 beef exporter, according to data collected by Canada-based organ firm World's Top Exporters, Asia News Network reports.
The US exported beef worth US$6.2 billion in 2017, and these exports accounted for 12.9% of the country's total beef production in 2017.
Coming in second is Australia, whose beef exports were valued at $5.8 billion last year. The country produces 4% of the world's beef supply.
No. 3 is Brazil, whose beef exports in 2017 raked in $5.1 billion, up 26% from the previous year.
The Netherlands is the fourth-largest beef exporter, shipping out $3.1 billion worth of the meat in 2017, while India is the fifth-highest beef exporter with export value of $3 billion.
India is followed by Ireland ($2.2 billion), New Zealand ($2 billion) and Canada ($1.6 billion), whose beef exports in 2017 were up 5% compared with 2016.
Uruguay - ranked ninth - exported $1.52 billion worth of beef in 2017. At the 10th spot is Poland, whose beef exports last year reached $1.51 billion. Poland enjoyed a good market in Italy and expanded its export market to Turkey and the Netherlands. In addition, Poland regained access for its beef to Saudi Arabia, after it lifted its ban on Polish beef. All this increased the country's beef exports to put it on the list of the world's top 10 beef-exporting countries.
