Six firms issue tender for Indian wheat
India on August 28 received bids of 530,000 tonnes of wheat from six companies priced at US$385 to US$434 per tonne. The minimum price quoted by suppliers is 18 percent more than the average rate of US $325.59 per tonne at which the government contracted 511,000 tonnes of wheat in the last round of tenders.
While eight companies participated in the tender floated by State Trading Corporation (STC), which has been importing wheat on behalf of the government, the bids of two firms were either rejected or not considered, an STC official said.
Cargill India has offered to supply 80,000 tonnes while Toepfer International offered 70,000 tonnes. Switzerland-based AMEROPA meanwhile offered 25,000 tonnes and Starcom offered 5,000 tonnes.
