US corn and soybean development progresses ahead of schedule amid mixed crop conditions

The development of US corn and soybeans continues to outpace the average, according to the latest data from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Brownfield Ag News reported.

This progress comes after another week of generally favourable weather conditions in much of the US Midwest and Plains. However, some regions are expected to face stress from hot, mostly dry conditions this week, along with the potential for severe storms.

The USDA reports that 84% of the US corn crop has reached the dough-making stage, with 46% of the crop dented and 11% mature. These figures are all ahead of the respective five-year averages. Despite this progress, the overall condition of the corn crop has seen a slight decline, with 65% rated as good to excellent, down 2% from the previous week.

In the soybean sector, 89% of the crop is at the pod-setting stage, and 6% is dropping leaves, both faster than the historical averages. However, the condition of the soybean crop also saw a small decline, with 67% rated as good to excellent, a decrease of 1% from the previous week.

Spring wheat harvest is progressing, with 51% of the crop harvested, slightly behind the 53% average for this time of year. The condition of the spring wheat crop has also deteriorated, with 69% rated as good to excellent, down 4% from the previous week.
