China sponsors training programme for Costa Rica's shrimp producers

The Ministry of Commerce of China is supporting Costa Rica's shrimp production by sponsoring a training course for local producers.

Conducted by the Fujian Ocean Research Institute, the course - entitled "2018 Costa Rica Marine Fisheries Cultivation and Breeding Training Course" - was hosted this month at the National University of Costa Rica in Heredia, SeafoodSource reported. It was attended by more than 100 participants from government, fishing companies, universities, and NGOs in the country.

During the course, trainers shared expertise on fish and shrimp farming, and elaborated on water quality control, disease prevention, diet and genetics.

China is expected to continue provide training in Costa Rica, said Tang Hen, China's ambassador to the country.
