South Africa's 2007/08 corn yields fell by 23,000 tonnes last week
South Africa's corn yields for the 2007/08 season fell by 23,000 tonnes on the week to 36,000 tonnes last week, the South African Grain Information Service (SAGIS) said Wednesday (August 29).
Farmers have delivered 5.370 million tonnes, about 1.5 million tonnes away from the projected 6.902 million tonnes.
South African farmers harvest corn each year from about April to early August, with the key harvest months being June and July.
Wheat yields since October last year rose by 1,000 tonnes to 2.043 tonnes last week, SAGIS' weekly harvest report showed.
Deliveries for the week ended August 17, were adjusted upwards by 1,000 tonnes.
The total is 79,000 tonnes short of the projected 2.122 million tonnes.
