Prices of eggs in Indonesia increase due to breeders' inability to meet demand, says industry official
Layer Poultry Indonesia Breeders president Ki Musbar Mesdi said that the prices of eggs in Indonesia had increased significantly mainly due to breeders' inability to meet demands.
"The current increase of egg prices is (due to) the demands for egg consumption (having) returned to normal since the pandemic (became) endemic," said Mesdi.
According to Mesdi, demands for eggs were previously at its lowest, as the government helped roll out social assistance programmes and supplied daily staple goods, which included eggs.
Despite the returning demand for eggs, the population of layer poultry farms in Indonesia has not reached the levels of 2019.
Mesdi said that it would take three to four months for the industry to recover.
