Manitoba Pork GM Andrew Dickson to retire in January

The Manitoba Pork Council is looking this early to fill up the position of general manager that Andrew Dickson will vacate by the end of January 2021.

Mr. Dickson will be retiring after 15 years of being a GM, a position he took on in early 2005. He is giving up his post at a most challenging time when it is uncertain when the COVID-19 will end.

Despite the challenges, however, he remains optimistic about the pork industry, as per report of Discover Westman.

"The long run is it's a good industry", he was quoted as saying. "It's well organised, we've got modern facilities in Manitoba. This is a good place to raise pigs and world demand for pork is high. There's a limited number of countries that can supply that demand and Canada's one of them".

Dickson has an agriculture degree from the University of Reading, England. After his graduation in 1974, he worked on a dairy farm in Dauphin, Manitoba.

His advice to his successor is to work closely with the board. "You've got to help develop that board. You've got to help and motivate the staff and keep aware of the issues and be prepared to be a leader for the industry", he said during an interview with the Manitoba Co-operator.

Manitoba Pork represents 613 hog farms in Manitoba province.
