India's Avee Broilers to establish poultry farms in Uzbekistan

India's Avee Broilers genetic company is set to establish poultry farms in the Jizzakh and Samarkand regions of Uzbekistan, which will not only meet Uzbekistan's domestic demand for meat but also enable the country to export poultry, Kun.uz reported.
The agreement includes the production of 4 million parent stock birds for Uzbekistan and Central Asia. Currently, the annual regional demand for poultry meat stands at 1.2 million tonnes, or 5.5 million birds. Meanwhile, Central Asia imports approximately 200,000 tonnes of meat from European countries each year. The total cost of the project is estimated at US$43 million, with a portion of the investment being covered by Uzbekistan.
The project will be implemented in two phases. The first phase, scheduled from 2024 to 2025, involves the establishment of a facility to breed purebred poultry. These birds will have their genetic traits passed down consistently due to genetic uniformity.
The second phase, set for 2025, will see the construction of an incubator and the breeding of ancestor flocks. These flocks will be the foundation for producing the next generation of poultry, which will then be supplied to the population.
Avee Broilers has committed to breeding 4 million parent stock birds annually. This is expected to reduce transportation costs associated with importing breeding materials into Uzbekistan. Currently, logistics costs for parent stock imported from European countries amount to US$2 per bird. With local production, this cost could be reduced to US0.50 per bird, potentially saving up to US$5 million across Central Asia.
In June, proposals for livestock development, including plans to introduce genetic technologies in poultry farming, were presented to the President of Uzbekistan. The collaboration with the US emphasises the critical role of genetics in poultry farming. Uzbekistan currently imports second-order meat poultry breeders, as the country lacks first-order breeders. By introducing genetic technologies, breeding farms could be established within Uzbekistan.
Earlier reports also mentioned plans to exempt poultry farms from land tax for five years and to permit the export of poultry meat.
