Russian poultry production rises in January-July 2015

During January-July 2015, poultry output in Russia has risen by 9.1% in live weight terms, with a volume of 3132.8 thousand tonnes, according to the country's Ministry of Agriculture.

Egg production also took an upward trend of 3.7% in the same period, with an increase of 675 million eggs. In addition, the average price for poultry products rose in July; a spike of 5% over last year was observed, which translated to US$1.39/kg.

Vladimir Labinov, the director of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Breeding at the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, named Belgorod, Saratov, Yaroslavl, Ryazan, Bryansk region and the Republic of Mari El as key regions for supporting the boost in egg and poultry outputs.

In the Kursk region, poultry production doubled over the past two years. Poultry output jumped more than 1.5 times in the Republic of Mordovia. For egg production, output rose by 1.5 times in the Kamchatka region. The increases had been attributed to the modernisation of sites and commissioning of new livestock facilities.

"Further development of the industry is possible due to increased competitiveness, development of innovations in the field of genetics and selection of all types of poultry, and the introduction of new techniques and technological methods of deep processing of poultry meat and eggs, to expand the range of products," Labinov said.
