Ukraine's 2011 grain crop to hit 47 million tonnes
Ukraine's grain yield forecast of 50 million tonnes, provided by the agriculture ministry on August 6 was too optimistic and the country will not harvest more than 47 million tonnes, the hydro meteorological centre said Thursday (Aug 25).
The weather centre said its original May forecast of 44.5-47 million tonnes had been revised to 46-47 million tonnes because of good vegetation of corn, which the country is about to begin harvesting.
Ukraine's grain harvest in 2010 fell by 14.8% on-year to 39.23 million tonnes in clean weight because of drought.
