BASF increases calcium D-pantothenate prices on higher raw materials costs

German chemicals company BASF has announced a global price increase for its calcium D-pantothenate products by EUR1.4 (US$2.02) per kilogramme, effective immediately.

The increase is necessary to compensate for higher raw material costs in 2011, according to the company.

Calcium D-pantothenate is the salt form of pantothenic acid, otherwise known as vitamin B5, and is a vitamin used in human and animal nutrition. BASF is a major global supplier of calcium D-pantothenate.

BASF has also announced that it will temporarily shut down production of calcium D-pantothenate at its facility in Ludwigshafen for a routine overhaul. The shutdown, during October 2011, is expected to last a few weeks, and the company will honour all existing contractual obligations.
