Ghana to develop fisheries and aquaculture industry
Ghana is developing its fisheries and aquaculture industry with the help of China and Israel.
The sector would focus on aquaculture research, production and fish feed in Africa.
Israel is sending experts to Ghana to train scientists in advanced aquaculture techniques, said Gladys Asmah, minister of fisheries.
Ghana is suitable for aquaculture because it has the natural resources and the manpower required, she said, adding that what it now needs is financial support and human capability.
She announced that funds had been secured for the construction of fishing harbours and fish landing sites. The ministry had also secured a grant for the construction of a number of cold stores in the fishing communities.
More than 300 extension officers had also been trained throughout the country to support fish farming in the country, Asmah added.
