South Korea Jan-July corn imports down 30 percent
South Korea's corn imports in the first seven months of 2009 declined 30 percent to 4.1 million tonnes, according to data from the Korea International Trade Association.
Corn imports for feed production, which account for around 80 percent of the total, dropped 33 percent to 3.3 million tonnes, while food-grade corn imports fell 16 percent to 786,688 tonnes.
The largest feed corn suppliers to South Korea during the period were the US at 2.5 million tonnes and Brazil at 499,166 tonnes. Argentina was the third largest supplier at 167,329 tonnes and Ukraine was ranked fourth at 118,688 tonnes.
South Korea is the world's third largest corn buyer.
